Three smoothie recipes packed full of antioxidants
Welcome back! Today we are chatting about the benefits of antioxidants and we are going to share with you three great smoothie recipes that are full of antioxidants, which have proven health benefits and may help improve skin conditions.
So, what are antioxidants anyway? They protect your body from ‘free radicals’, which can interfere with your body’s cells. Free radicals end up in your body from exposure to air pollutants, eating unhealthy, processed and fried foods, exposure to pesticides, taking medication or exposure to radiation.
All these free radicals can lead to you feeling pretty unhealthy and can speed up the aging process, as well as being linked to chronic diseases like cancer, auto immune disorders and heart disease.
Antioxidants fight the free radicals and nutralise their effects. And the great news is they are so easy to get! They are in fruit, veggies, nuts, herbs and spices. One of the best way to get a good hit is with an antioxidant rich smoothie every day. Here are three of our favourite recipes.
- ½ cup strawberries
- 1 cup blueberries
- ½ cup vanilla yoghurt
- ½ cup of skim milk or almond milk
- ½ banana
- 2 tbls honey or agave
- 6 ice cubes
Blend the ingredients together (except for the ice) until pureed. Then add the ice and blend again.
- 1 cup of almond milk/fruit juice
- ½ banana, peeled
- 1 cup baby spinach leaves
- 1 cup of mango or strawberries
- ½ cup ice
