Have your Skin feeling in tip-top condition this Summer

Hi Beauty and skincare fans!

Summer is just around the corner so it’s time to start getting our Summer Skin ready.  Skin needs to be treated differently in the Summer due to the damaging effects that the sun can have.

There are 6 very easy steps to follow that will mean that your skin looks, feels and stays in tip-top condition throughout the Summer months:

1) Always EXFOLIATE: 
The exfoliation process removes dead and dulling skin cells allowing your skin to breathe again free of debris. The ideal time to exfoliate is first thing in the morning before you apply your toner and moisturise your skin. If you exfoliate before you put your make-up on it will actually last longer!  The Proactiv+ Skin Smoothing Exfoliator formulated with glycolic acid is a great choice to help loosen dull skin and remove impurities from the skin, leaving you with a softer, smoother complexion.

2) Keep skin HYDRATED:

3) DRINK lots: 
It is so easy to become dehydrated which in turn can lead to dizziness and headaches.  Drink as much water as you can every day – experts recommend drinking at least eight 8oz glasses, or up to 2 Litres.  Remember if you are drinking caffeinated drinks then you need to triple the amount of water that you drink. Water maintains the balance of moisture in your body and it is also great for detoxifying.

Apply enough sunscreen and apply it frequently.  The rule of thumb is a teaspoon-sized amount for the face and for the body around about as much as would fill a standard shot glass!  You should reapply sunscreen every two hours and avoid the midday sun whenever you can.  If you have to be out and about in it then wear a hat!

5) SOOTHE sun-damaged skin: 
OK, so it shouldn’t happen but sometimes it does – you forgot to apply or reapply your sunscreen, you missed a bit or you were simply caught out when the sun appeared after a rainy morning and now your skin is sore.  The damage is done but you can still take care of the skin to relieve the pain and some of the redness.  Soothing and cooling creams will help to prevent peeling and will reduce redness and inflammation.  Did you know though that just one blistering sunburn doubles your risk of melanoma – get your skin checked once a year by your doctor and examine yourself monthly to check for any warning signs – any changing or new moles or any skin changes in general.

A tan makes everybody feel better – but fake it!  UV light in the sun will ultimately just lead to brown spots, coarse skin and wrinkles.

So there you go; some tips for skin that is fit for Summer…..now all you need is some new swimwear and the sunshine!
