How to Use a Pore Cleansing Brush

Cleansing with great skincare products is an important step in keeping a clear complexion, but have you ever stopped to think about the technique you employ at the basin? Washing your face with your hands or a soft washcloth is fine, but for a truly deep clean, it might be time to consider implementing a facial cleansing brush into your routine.

What is a pore cleansing brush?

Pore cleansing brushes, or facial cleansing brushes, are electronic handheld devices that are designed to help gently and thoroughly cleanse the skin. When turned on and placed onto dampened skin, a soft bristle brush continuously rotates to lift off any impurities on and under the surface. Think of it as a power tool for your face that takes away all the manual labour of cleansing.

What are the benefits of using a face cleansing brush?

Besides feeling like you’ve really taking your complexion to the next level, some of the major benefits for using a face brush include:

A truly deep clean

Using a facial cleansing brush can deep clean your pores much more effectively than your fingers or a wash cloth can do. The brush is able to penetrate further into the surface of the skin to help remove dirt and makeup that is deeply embedded. When you couple a face brush with cleansing products that contain salicylic acid, such as our Skin Smoothing Exfoliator, you’re doubling down on your efforts to remove debris from your clogged pores.

Smaller-looking pores

When a pore is congested, it expands in size – this is the number one reason why your pores can look so large in the mirror. Keeping your pores free of debris with the aid of a deep cleansing brush will help to make them look much smaller in size and for some, almost invisible.

Smooth and even exfoliation

As well as the deep clean, a pore cleansing brush also sloughs away dead skin cells. When you remove these dulling cells, your face will be softer, smoother, brighter and look more refreshed. Anti-blemish powers If you have blemish-prone skin, using a cleansing brush can be very effective. After cleansing and exfoliating with a face brush, your anti-blemish products can be absorbed much more effectively. With cleared pores, blemish-fighting ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide (found in our Pore Targeting Solution) are able to penetrate deeper and help remove impurities hiding inside the pore, clear up blemishes and minimise new ones from forming.

How to use a pore cleansing brush

Cleansing brushes are easy to use and also fun. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use it:

1. Apply a thin layer of cleanser (such as our Skin Smoothing Exfoliator) over your entire moistened face, avoiding the eye area.

2. Wet the brush bristles of your facial cleansing brush and power it on at low speed to start.

3. Gently move the rotating bristles of the brush in upward circular strokes with very light pressure over the entire area to be cleaned – aim to do this for one to two minutes.

Tip: Do not hold the brush in one place on the skin. Keep it moving to avoid over-cleansing or over-exfoliating.

4. Rinse with warm water, pat dry and follow up with anti-blemsih products (such as our Pore Targeting Solution) and then finish with your moisturiser (such as our Complex Perfecting Hydrator).

How often should you use a face brush?

If you’re going to implement a cleansing brush into your daily routine, it’s best to use it just once per day – any more than that and you could be in danger of over-exfoliating the skin.

As you can see, adding a cleansing brush to your skincare routine can help take your skin to the next level. As well as enhancing all the anti-blemish properties in your products, you can look forward to a more radiant and glowing complexion!
